Near Field Communication is a wireless technology that allows for the transfer of data such as text or numbers between two NFC enabled devices. NFC tags, for example, stickers contain small microchips with little antennas which can store a small amount of information for transfer to another NFC device, such as a mobile phone.

They provide a number of benefits over current technologies: Bar codes/QR Codes – Can be damaged, cant be written in the field, requires 3rd party hardware. RFID, reads a large area so doesn’t contain a one to one relationship i.e. could allow for inspections to be completed, needs 3rd part hardware or a specific device to scan tags.

They are a cost-effective solution which can be embedded in almost anything to suit the required need i.e. rugged tags, cable ties, stickers, cards etc. you probably already have a few in your wallet!
